RI KÖKO: Searching again
I’ve been making, albeit slowly because of life circumstances, studio moves and physical ailments.
I’ve been thinking about invisible labour and love and generosity in the sculpture process.
I’ve been exploring how to bring the materials I work with together in one project, through their presence and absence.
I’ve been focusing on the process itself, as it is where the effort goes, what we often don’t get to see and, consequently, fail to appreciate.
For whom
To whom
Out of whom
Questions that I once heard in a conversation with writer NourbeSe Philip and that got stuck in my head as they were, as they are, extremely relevant to this vision I now have.
We make
We create
For whom
To whom
Out of whom
And then
What’s lost? Why? At what cost?

The Palace at 4am
If in London, a new group show is opening at Sarabande this week:
Bringing together the work of 17 Sarabande artists-in-residence, The Palace at 4am explores tensions between seduction, desire and restraint, compression and release, and emergence and withdrawal. Tightly bound form and constriction are placed in dialogue with more open, atmospheric states, creating a charged rhythm across the exhibition.
The show marks the opening of Sarabande Foundation’s new Tottenham studios and will be open from June 26 to July 1. More information here.
I will be presenting ‘old’ pieces displayed very differently to explore other ways of showing my works that feel a bit more experimental and less plinth-based… 👀
